KMKP Helpful Hints Take a few minutes to go through your winter wear and gear. Sort coats, hats, scarves, boots, ear muffs, and gloves. Toss out any damaged items. Give away or donate items that don't fit anymore or items that you never even pulled out for to use this season. Store items in only if you are positive you will use them again. Would you miss the item tremendously or be lost without it? If not give it away, donate it, or toss it. Take baby steps toward a task that seems like you'll never get done with. Instead of trying to declutter and organize your entire home office in a weekend take baby steps toward the ultimate goal. Clean off your desk. Don't worry about filing every single piece of paper today. Simply sort the monster paper stacks into smaller piles. Start off with two piles. A toss pile and a keep pile. Next weekend create 3 piles, you could try a toss pile, sort through pile, and a can file now pile. Deal with the rest the next time you have a few minutes free. As you work your way through the piles you'll see an amazing difference in the amount of paper clutter you have. Don't add to the clutter. For the next two weeks or so try to refrain from buying anything that you don't absolutely have to purchase. Before you make a purchase ask yourself if you'll really use the item and where you'll put it. If you must purchase something new, donate or toss an older item that you no longer MUST have. Take five minutes every day to do something to help towards your decluttering goal. Do something, anything, no matter how small a step you take it's still one more step closer to the ultimate goal of being clutter free. Don't stress over totes, boxes, bags, and piles of clutter around the house or office. Work on one room or one area at a time. We'd all love an amazingly immaculate home but most of us will never reach that dream. After all who cares if you can't reach the closet in your bedroom for all the clutter in the way of the closet door. But that closet is nice and organized with unused items tossed or donated and now you can easily find your clothing and get dressed in a shorter period of time. Next week you can work on cleaning up the bedroom floor and making a trouble free path to walk from bed to closet. Don't think every part of the house has to be perfect all at once. Take small steps and do it all one area at a time. |
